Department of sociology is one of the most important departments of Arya Kanya Degree College, a Constituent College of University of Allahabad. The department was established in 1975, from the beginning of the college. Sociology is the study of the relationship between human and society. It tries to analyze how different social institution and practices are related to each other. Sociology tells us about how people are related each other. It looks at the interdependency between social behaviour of people and the cultural context they come from. Human life is not segregated. All these societal forces push and pull at each other in varying degrees and ways.
Sociology is an important subject which elaborates contemporary values of modern society and make a person social and civilized. Our department also look after these principles of sociology and educate our students according to the need of this subject. Sociology plays an important role as a subject in academic and other competitive examination such as civil services.
The department started offering Post-Graduate Programme since the 2016-17 session. Presently Dr. Anju Srivastava is the Head of the Department and Dr. Smita, Assistant Professor and Dr. Savyasachi, Assistant Professor are the other faculty members.
